A FEAST of free live music is on offer in Redditch Town Centre next weekend as part of the third annual Redditch Music Festival.

Some 20 bands, solo artists and duos will perform throughout Saturday, July 16 as part of the festival, which also includes the latest bandstand event.

The live music starts at midday with performances taking place at three outdoor locations around the town centre, with the focal point being the Bandstand on Church Green for the next instalment of Redditch Borough Council’s Bandstand programme.

A number of musical acts will perform including retro punk band Voodoo Club, original rock band Mantara, electro-acoustic group Wychwood, and local pop/rock group Lost at Home. Opening the festival will Redditch’s own Stuart Wolfenden fresh from a number of festival appearances and a showcase on BBC Radio.

Food will also be on offer from outlets including The Little New York Burger Co. and Shake Shack ‘gourmet hotdogs’ and there will be Children’s activities including a bouncy castle, face painting and craft workshops.

The event runs until 4pm but there will be more live music on offer in the evening from about 5pm at venues around the town centre including the Black Tap on Church Green East, The Golden Cross on Unicorn Hill and The Sportsman’s Arms in Peakman Street.

The festival is being organised by local musician Steve Barnes with support from Redditch Borough Council and Redditch Town Centre Partnership.

He said: “The festival will showcase the array of local talent the area has to offer. There’s a wide variety of acts performing so there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone.”

Val Wilson, arts and events officer for Redditch Borough Council, said: “It’s great that the bandstand event for July could fit in with the wider event in the town. Hopefully it brings lots of people into the centre to enjoy the fantastic music on offer.”

The bandstand events take place once a month from June until September.

Outdoor performances are subject to change/cancellation due to adverse weather conditions.
