AN amazing £750 has been raised from a concert in aid of borough Mayor Pattie Hill’s chosen charities.

The event, held last Saturday (October 24) at St Stephens Church in the town centre, saw Redditch Rock Choir take to the stage in support of local gypsy jazz outfit Montparnasse.

More than 100 people were in the audience and the money will go to Touchstones, which provides bereavement support for young people, Redditch First Responders, and Redditch Cat Rescue.

Steve Barnes of Redditch Musical Festival who organised the event said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came along and the generosity of our sponsors, Cafe Mambo and Courtyard Music of Tardebigge and the Black Tap Brewery for the generous rafffle prizes.

“I’m planning to make this an annual occasion and look forward to promoting more music events in Redditch very soon.”

Montparnasse is a Redditch-based band led by Cris Tolley which specialises in the classic jazz-inflected music of the Django Reinhardt while Redditch Rock Choir is a singing ensemble with a difference, performing their own arrangements of hit pop and rock songs with everyone welcome to join, regardless of age, ability or experience.

They rehearse at Studley Sports Centre on Abbeyfields Drive on Wednesdays from 8pm-9.30pm. Visit www.rockchoir.com to book a free taster session.
