Classy Italian is a delicious treat

“IT’S so classy we could be at the Mailbox in Birmingham,” was one comment passed by our party when we visited the newly opened Prezzo restaurant in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Tucked away in a secluded part of the complex it is at once open and yet intimate too, part of, yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of people going about their daily business.

The decor is clean and classy (that word again) and the menu mouthwatering, to say the least.

We plumped for a Large Pane Con Cipolla (£5.80) – garlic pizza bread with balsamic onions and mozzarella – to share to get us started.

Gastric juices flowing it was then on to the main courses, a very cheesy Fusilli Gorgonzola with chicken, pancetta, broccoli and parsley in a Gorgonzola sauce (£11.95), Pollo Carbonara, with chicken, pancetta and spaghetti (£11.25), the Italian Burger with prosciutto, smoked scamorza cheese and chips (£11.65), and a Chicken and Asparagus Risotto with peas, and bella lodi cheese £12.65). We shared a mixed salad (£3.85).

All were delicious and bursting with flavour, however, be warned, the helpings were very generous indeed and, with one eye on the dessert menu, only our burger eater could clear his plate.

And indeed the puddings really did hit the spot – the Tiramisu (£5.85) was light and delicious, the Sticky Toffee Pudding (£5.65) was a meal in itself, the Milk Chocolate Fudge Cake (£5.75) was so rich it had to be shared, while the Chocolate Orange Slice (£5.65) was perfection itself – and won by a head.

Drinks were £2.55 for a 50cl bottle of sparkling mineral water while a Coca Cola was £2.60.

With mains starting from £7.95 Prezzo is a welcome addition to the eating options at the Kingfisher.

Warm and welcoming Prezzo proved impossible to fault and a delight to dine at.

An express lunch menu is available too – just turn up or book on 01527 592408.
