Foot stompers ready for a Merry gig at Mambo Cafe

A FOOT stomping good time for all is promised when local band NotSoMerry help kick off the Redditch bandstand music festival with a gig at Mambo Cafe tonight, Friday (July 17).

Their forte is to take well-known hits, tinker with the arrangements then sprinkle their own bit of magic on them to produce a new take on old favourites.

“We come with a diverse background of musical tastes from Blues to Rock and we build it around a big rhythm – it’s very anthemic and people really get into it and have a good time,” said guitarist Ian Merry, from Alvechurch.

It’s a style the four-piece band has been developing over the last three years, refining as they go along.

“The last time we played outdoors at the Mambo Cafe a police van pulled up and I thought ‘uh-oh, someone’s in a spot of bother’ butt you could see inside and there were the police officers dancing away to our songs,” said Ian, who has a music degree and teaches guitar.

“We also love to get people singing along and joining in so everyone at the Mambo can look forward to some unique arrangements and a very enjoyable evening listening to some real foot-stomping music.”

NotSoMerry play the Mambo Cafe, outdoors if the weather is fine, in the marquee if not, at 8pm.
