Mexico comes to Redditch this weekend with Duo Dulcemelos

STUNNING music all the way from Mexico comes to Redditch this Saturday evening (July 30) in the shape of Duo Dulcemelos.

Playing the hammer dulcimer – the Salterio – the result is beautiful bell-like music so typical of the country.

Dulcemelos are Alejandro Barrientos and Hector Larios, stars with a worldwide following and they’ve been brought to town by Redditch’s very own dulcimer champion Sally Whytehead, who organised the World Dulcimer Congress here and in Malvern last year.

This is a very rare chance to see and hear the Salterio and its music up close,” she said.

The dulcimer is an ancient stringed instrument which can either be played with ‘hammers’ like a sophisticated xylophone or, in the American Appalachian version, plucked like a guitar or harp.

Sally, who holds regular get togethers for fans of the dulcimer, has also arranged some workshops on the afternoon of the concert so people can discover even more of the delights of the instrument.

The concert and workshops are at St Andrews Church, Upperfield Close, Church Hill, B98 9AA.

People are welcome to attend the workshops from 2pm, entry £10, while doors open for the concert at 6.30pm for a 7pm start, again, tickets are £10.

For more details and to book a seat, email Sally at [email protected] .
