LOCAL charity Indigo arts will be making a dramatic entrance to the Kingfisher Shopping Centre when they bring their Pop Up Theatre to Walford Walk this weekend.

In the lead up to the production, Indigo has teamed up with the Arts in Redditch network, to run a gallery and shop, selling local arts and crafts, as well as a box office for the event.

The company will be premiering this year’s production ‘Ashes & Blood’, in the very centre of their home town before embarking on their sixth journey to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where they have won huge plaudits.

Deeply rooted in the world of folklore and fairytale and backed by a live pop and rock score the company brings a dark and familiar musical tale of a girl who, despite the cruelty of her stepmother and sisters, finds both love and fortune in this new twist on an ancient tale.

This project is the first of Indigo’s Pop Up events, turning empty spaces into performance and art venues, and builds on the Pop Up gallery culture established in the town centre by the Arts in Redditch Network.

The company are also hoping to raise money for their trip to the Fringe, where young actors can gain first hand experience of performing on an international stage, at the largest arts festival in the world.

Projects director Cathy Moss said: “Performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is an amazing experience for these young people, it teaches them not only the realities of the industry, in a world where everyone is preoccupied with celebrity fantasy, but provides them with experience of having to get a show up in pressurised circumstances – and sell it – when up against around 3,000 shows a day.

“They come away much more confident and with a great sense of achievement, having held their own in a professional environment. Redditch should be very proud of them.”

The company is entirely reliant on fund raising, donations and grants and members are always on the look out for those willing to donate or offer sponsorship, and are keen to hear from anyone able to support their Edinburgh trip.

Members are also raffling a signed tour poster presented to them by ‘The Script’ along with tour T Shirt and bag, to support their efforts. Raffle tickets can be bought from the Pop Up Shop which opens July 18.

Tickets for the production, on July 25-26 at 7.30pm, can also be bought from the shop or online from www.ticketsource.co.uk/indigoarts .
