A NEW musical comedy based on a hilarious 1950’s classic is heading to Malvern Theatres.

The Smallest Show on Earth will be in town from Monday (November 23) to Saturday (November 28), where the adapted British film will be performed starring Liza Goddard and Brian Capron.

The iconic musical contains some of Irving Berlin’s greatest songs including Blue Skies, Shakin’ the Blues Away, Let Yourself Go, Steppin’ Out with my Baby and How Deep is the Ocean, as well as some rediscovered gems.

The comical plot follows newly-weds Matt and Jean Spenser, who inherit a cinema and think their fortune is made, but the Bijou, better known as the fleapit, is the victim of a dirty tricks campaign from its rival and flashy neighbour, The Grand.

The Bijou’s benevolent manageress Mrs Fazackalee and unreliable projectionist Mr Quill combine with Matt and Jean to outwit the opposition and restore the Bijou to its former glory.

Other stars in the cast include Haydn Oakley, Laura Pitt-Pulford, Ricky Butt, Philip Rham, Christina Bennington, Sam O’Rourke and Matthew Crowe.

Director Thom Southerland said: “Berlin’s music provides the perfect accompaniment to our 1950’s story, not only in lyric, but in style and period too.”

The event runs from 7.30pm weeknights and 2.30pm on Wednesday and Saturday.

Tickets for the show range from £19.04 to £38.08.
