A DARING pair from Studley are taking a leap of faith from 13,000 feet above the ground in a charity skydive later this month.
On July 24, Amelia Hopkins and her cousin Emily Hopkins will take to the skies over Banbury for a tandem skydive in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
Having lost close relatives to cancer, the pair want to give something back and ensure that the best services are available to the people who need them most.
22-year-old Amelia said: “We have taken on this huge challenge for three special people – our Poppa, my dad, and Emily’s Nanny Barbara.
“At 84 years old, just after Christmas 2015 our Poppa, Antony Hopkins, was diagnosed with bowel, liver and lung cancer.
“While at times our Nan was exhausted from taking care of him, the Macmillan nurses were always there to support her. They gave all the help and care they both needed.”
She added: “Our original target was to raise £500, but we’ve already smashed that, so now we’re aiming for the big £1,000.
“Cancer is something that has touched our family a lot in recent years, so I feel it’s a vital cause to support.
“Macmillan are amazing – not just for supporting the patient but also for the family too.
“I cannot thank Macmillan enough for giving the help that families need at such hard times.”
Emily, who is doing the dive in memory of her Nanny Barbara, said: “She was such a brave woman who was an inspiration to us all.
“I aim to make her proud in everything I do. I know she would have loved to see me doing this for charity – although she hated heights.”
