Youngsters star in talent contest

THE town’s youngsters have triumphed at the first ever Redditch Has Talent show.

The event last Thursday saw 13 performers divided into three age groups take to the stage and turn in a scintillating evening of entertainment before a packed Palace Theatre.

And the man behind the venture, David Wilkins, reckons the show has unearthed some stars who have what it takes to go professional.

“It was an absolute pleasure to to be involved, there wasn’t a weak act among them and they all did themselves proud – it was a tremendous night,” said Mr Wilkins.

The youngsters were divided into three age groups – 10 to 13, 13 to 16, and 16 to 19 and the acts involved everything from skipping ropes to singers, rock, comedy routines and a magician.

“They were all winners as they had come through the auditions and they all received a certificate marking their achievement but we’d agreed to choose one winner from each age group,” said Mr Wilkins, who also prasied the children from Ipsley RSA and the Palace Youth Theatre who also performed.

The winners were Voce 123 from Church Hill Middle School in the 10 to 13 group, singer Olivia Sarah in the 13 to 16 group and singer/songwriter Emily Shackles in the 16-18 group.

And the show was such a success they’ve already inked it in for June 30 next year and added a fourth category of 19 and over.

“18 months ago we were told that ‘Redditch has no talent’ and that it was ‘the least musical town in the country’ well this has proved them wrong it was really, really good and everyone involved must be congratulated,” said Council Leader Councillor Bill Hartnett.
