A very special day

FAMILY from across the world flew to England to celebrate a special Studley woman’s 100th birthday.

Florence May Wilkes celebrated the milestone on Monday, September 1.

The former needle and fishing industry worker was surrounded by friends and relatives at an open house event with some travelling from Australia, Spain and Ireland.

The centenarian married her husband Graham when she was 21 and the couple went on to have seven children.

From there the family grew bigger, with Florence becoming a grandmother to 15, a great grandmother to ten and a great great grandmother to two.

Her daughter Carol said she has great sense of humour and would often travel across the globe to visit family.

“She loves her reading and really loves her soaps, and her garden.

“She has worked all her life and has kept active. Having the grandchildren around also keeps her active and I think having the family around a lot has kept her going.”
