Alcester brothers' graduation is double honours for proud parents

AN ALCESTER couple were faced with a nightmare decision this summer when their two sons were set to graduate on the same day at universities 150 miles apart.

Pete and Sally Havard were left with the difficult choice when Dave, aged 24, and younger brother Chris, 21, received the same date of July 14 for their graduations at their respective universities.

“It really was unbelievable,” said Sally. “The ceremonies were within an hour of each other and with no helicopter available we had to literally draw straws for which parent went to which ceremony!”

It ended with Sally travelling to Cardiff University to watch Chris graduate with a BSc Economics First Class Honours degree whilst Pete headed off to Leicester with oldest son Dave to celebrate his MB ChB Degree in Medicine & Surgery.

“We are thrilled and so very proud,” Sally added. “We are very proud parents and we did have the best of both worlds in the end.”
