Alcester choir raised £20,000 total

ALCESTER-based choir Tarantara have raised £20,000 for various charities this year.

The announcement was made at their annual concert in Shottery, Stratford, and musical director Jonathan Hill said he would be pleased to see more potential singers wishing to join them and more charities for whom to raise money.

Tarantara, is an auditioned mixed choir of some 70 singers, normally fielding over 50 voices for each concert. Their repertoire ranges from Abba to World in Union and from Ave Verum through to Tollite Hostias.

Lead by Jonathan through the 12 years since its formation, the choir is accompanied by the talented Chris Long.

Tarantara finished off its season with a visit to Oviedo in northern Spain where they closed a week long music festival where their performance went down a storm receiving standing ovations (the choir claims to sing in over 10 languages!).

This was reflected in the local press reaction wondering how they deserved such a talented performance and seeking a return next year.

Now that the new season has started Tarantara is seeking to increase the number of concerts and venues at which to perform.

All they seek from a charity is a good venue and an audience appropriate to the size of choir.
