Alcester Library set to move to new home in Globe House

ALCESTER’S bookworms will have a new place to curl up with a good read next month when the town’s library moves to its new home at Globe House on Priory Road.

The market town’s current library will close its doors tomorrow (Thursday) and will reopen at its new home on February 8.

That means from Friday (January 22) to February 7 Alcester residents will briefly be without a library in order for the move to take place.

However, members will still have access to services online 24 hours a day, seven days a week where they can renew and reserve items as well as access e-books and a range of free online reference material.

County Councillor Mike Gittus said he was very much looking forward to the re-opening of Globe House which will bring together a great range of services under one roof

“This is the culmination of five years of work negotiating, re-structuring, re-organising, financing and pooling public support,” he added.

Globe House was the former office of Stratford District Council but in recent years became surplus to requirements. Rather than seeing it as a challenge, it became a major opportunity for the county council and local community to bring the library together with a range of council services and Alcester’s Roman Museum.

Visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/libraries for more information and to renew or reserve items or call 01926 499273 24 where you can renew books 24 hours a day.
