AN ALCESTER Slimming World consultant has proved she’s red hot after winning a Ruby Award for her work in helping to tackle obesity in the town.
Becky Barber, who runs the Alcester Slimming World group at the Jubilee Centre and Fields, was delighted to receive the award for inspiring dozens of people in the local community to start losing weight and to improve their health.
The accolade sees Becky, who lost two stone with Slimming World herself, become a Ruby Consultant after welcoming 40 new members to her group in just one month.
Becky said: “In Alcester more than 22 per cent of adults are so overweight they’re putting their health at risk and sadly more than 20 per cent of children are struggling with their weight too.”
Becky added although a lots of people want to lose weight, they often didn’t know how or where to turn for help.
“When members come to my group they tell me that they’ve tried losing weight before and it hasn’t worked so they feel like failures but I reassure them that it isn’t them who failed but the programme they followed,” said Becky.
Becky’s group have lost 121 stone since January 1 this year and she said she knows her 40 new members will be equally successful.
Speaking about her award, Becky said she was delighted with the recognition.
She added: “I truly believe I have the best, most rewarding job in the world – there’s no better feeling than helping someone to feel good about themselves – so winning this award really is the (ruby red) cherry on top.”
