THE hard working staff in the Accident & Emergency department at the Alexandra Hospital were recognised when, together with colleagues from the Worcestershire Royal, they received the Trust chairman’s Special Award at an evening to celebrate the achievements of local health care.
An audience of 400 people celebrated as Olympic swimmer Mark Foster, on behalf of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, presented 17 awards for outstanding achievements at the Chateau Impney in Droitwich.
In all over 480 nominations were received with the chief executive’s Special Award being presented to Cath Cox, catering manager and Niki Jones, purchasing clerk for the Alexandra Hospital.
Cath said: “Both Niki and I were overwhelmed and honoured to receive this award, especially as I was just doing my job.”
Harry Turner, trust chairman said: “It’s a great honour to present these awards each year. Reading through the hordes of nominations served as a reminder of why I come to work every day.
“The thousands of thank you letters that our staff receive are proof that the care that they deliver day in and day out to our patients and their families is always appreciated.”
Yvonne Baker, Midwife in the Alexandra Hospital Delivery Suite won Midwife of the Year for the support she provides to women throughout their birthing experience.
Other awards included the Apprentice / Student of the Year, which was received by Health Care Apprentice Zoia Iqbal. Zoia, who works on Ward 10 at the Alex, maintains the highest standards of care for all her patients and is very supportive of her colleagues.
