ARSONISTS caused £600 of damage after setting fire to a polytunnel at allotments in Studley.
Firefighters were called to the Station Road site after residents saw the blaze about 11.30pm last Thursday (July 10).
The tunnel which is used for growing fruit and vegetables for residents was completely destroyed despite firefighters efforts.
Several sheds on the grounds were also broken into on the same night.
It follows an incident last month where vandals damaged several floral displays in the village which formed part of the Heart of England in Bloom competition, while the skate park was also targeted with graffiti.
Coun Adrian Smith, who is secretary of the allotment association, said he had been involved with the allotments for 12 years and had never seen anything like it.
“We have had minor incidents before but nothing to this scale,” he said.
“To take things and sell them on is one thing, but to come and set fire to something is just mindless.
“I just don’t know why anyone would want to do this.”
He added the vandals had also attempted to set fire to another polytunnel but had failed.
“I am looking at buying another but a part of me is worried it could happen again, it seems there is pattern emerging.
“It is all very dispiriting.”
A spokesman from Warwickshire Police said investigations were currently ongoing and police patrols by the Safer Neighbourhood Team had also been stepped up.
He added the site would continue to be monitored over the next few weeks to reassure residents.
