Another reason to campaign

THE MAN leading the campaign to save services at the Alexandra Hospital has a new very special reason to continue the fight.

Neal Stote and wife Faye welcomed the arrival of Rose Darcey at 1.45pm on Tuesday (May 27), weighing in at 8lb 2.5 ounces via Caesarean section.

She is the couple’s first child together, but their fifth overall, and will join them at home in Greenlands.

It is proposed to remove consultant-led deliveries from the Alex as part of the reconfiguration of the county’s hospital services, meaning in future babies such as Rose will be born in Birmingham or Worcester.

But Mr Stote said having experienced the amazing hard work of staff first-hand and seen how busy the maternity unit at the Alex was, he did not believe services could be safely removed.

“I really cannot see how this move would benefit anyone or anything other than WAHT’s coffers. There is no funding or capacity to allow the current proposal to proceed and little logic to it either. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff who helped baby Rose, Faye and me.”
