Apartments plan for nightclub

Redditch Editorial 5th Mar, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE TOWN’S biggest nightclub could be knocked down and replaced with apartments.

Area Club, on Church Road, could be demolished and transformed into a four-storey building with 27 flats as part of a planning application submitted to Redditch Borough Council.

The plans, put forward by agent YIW Architecture, include 12 one-bedroom apartments and 15 two-bedroom apartments.

A total of 17 car parking spaces would be provided on the ground floor of the building and accessed via Church Road.

It is believed the plans were submitted after the owners of the disused club had difficulty maintaining it as an entertainment venue.

The club closed in January this year and in the application it stated the client had no alternative but to redevelop the site.

It added, the existing club takes away from the character and appearance of other properties in the area while the proposed plans would contribute to mix use development in the town centre, following national and local policies.

The troubled venue was previously owned by the same management as Redditch’s Fever – known as Club MooMoo – but that also shut after just 18 months. The club has also previously been called Fuse and Time and was previously a bingo hall.

A decision on the plans is expected to be made by May 22.
