HEALTH chiefs are calling for more respect to be shown to workers in the medical field and are reminding people aggressive and violent behaviour will not be tolerated.
The pleas comes after a rise in complaints from GP practices about patients behaving aggressively towards staff and GPs themselves across NHS Redditch and Bromsgrove Clinical Commissioning Group.
Since April last year, 55 surgeries in Worcestershire have raised concerns and 229 patients are being provided services under the Violent Patient Scheme, which offers treatment away from the person’s usual practice following a violent or aggressive incident.
Dr Richard Davies, interim chair and clinical lead for NHS Redditch and Bromsgrove CCG, said: “There’s never any need to be rude or aggressive towards any member of staff and we need people to be aware that this sort of behaviour is not welcome in any healthcare setting.
“Although the vast majority of patients treat NHS workers and other patients with respect there are more and more instances of patients verbally abusing members of staff.
“Every health professional working across Worcestershire is committed to offering the best possible service to patients. However, if a patient feels they need to raise their concerns they should go through the provider’s proper complaints process.”
