A MAN armed with a gun robbed cash from an Evesham Road store.

The incident happened around 9.30pm on Friday (May 2) when the offender, who was carrying a black handgun, entered the Co-operative and threatened the shop assistant.

He led her to the back office where he grabbed cash from another staff member who was sitting at a desk before putting it in a black plastic bag and leaving the store by foot in the direction of Oakenshaw.

He was Asian, in his early 20s with an Asian accent, around 5ft 11ins and of slim build. He was wearing a black fleece-style hooded top with white zip and drawstring, black tracksuit or combat style trousers, black trainers, black gloves and a mask covering the lower part of his fact.

Det Insp Leighton Harding, who confirmed additional patrols would be taking place over the next few days to reassure residents, said: “We are eager to trace members of the public who alerted an officer to an Asian male running in Patch Lane, carrying a black rucksack soon after the robbery. We also appeal to anyone entering the Co-op store at the time of the incident that may have seen the offender leaving.

“Thankfully no one was injured in this incident, but we do need to find this person as soon as possible. As such we are releasing footage of a man caught on CCTV at the time of the robbery wearing quite distinctive clothing, if anyone knows who he is, please contact us straight away.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 766-s-020514, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
