Arson could be linked to other fires

Redditch Editorial 27th Aug, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

AN ARSON attack on the homes of elderly and vulnerable residents could be linked to other fires.

Police have begun investigating links between the fire in Johnson Close, Abbeydale, and others in the area in recent weeks to see if there is any connection.

A number of people had to be evacuated by emergency services around 3am on Saturday, August 23, after three bungalows were targeted.

Det Sgt Nick Husbands said: “This is a serious matter that could easily have had tragic consequences. Fortunately nobody was injured but the loss of the residents’ homes and personal property makes this a very serious incident.

“We are aware of other fires in the area over the past few weeks and these incidents will be reviewed as part of this investigation.”

District Insp Rebecca Love added while incidents that serious were very rare, they had a big impact on the community and extra officers had been made available to investigate and provide high visibility patrols.
