A STUDENT from St Augustine’s has rowed her way to a place in the top ten at the National Schools Championships.
Megan Mellors, aged 15, and her partner Lucy Hart finished eighth overall in the 1000 metre J15 Women’s Doubles Sculling Event on May 22.
The duo, who have been rowing together for around a year, travelled to the venue in Nottingham a week before the regatta to prepare for the race.
Megan said: “It was really daunting.
“It was a massive stretch of water and weather conditions were quite bad.”
But the pair fought their nerves and managed to qualify for the semi-finals by just three seconds.
“It really was by the skin of our teeth. We were following the national champions so we knew if we staying by them we were doing well.”
Megan added: “We now know what to work on for the national championships in July.
“It’s going to be difficult with exams but we still have six weeks to go and we will be dedicating all our free time to practising.”
