TWO TEENAGERS have been threatened with an axe by a man trying to rob them in broad daylight in Redditch on Wednesday (May 11).

The two boys were walking with a group of friends on Bromsgrove Road between 4.30pm and 4.50pm towards the Redditch Railway Station when one split away to make a phone call while the others continued under the bridge nearby

A man, about 18-years-old, approached him and threatened with the axe before taking his mobile phone, leaving the victim to run off.

The same man then stopped another young boy and threatened him before headbutting him. The youngster also ran off without anything being taken from him.

Police later found the axe described by the victims at the scene.

The robber was about 5ft 10ins, tall and skinny. He wore a grey hooded top which he wore up and around his face, with blue jeans. The victims also noticed the man spoke with a London accent.

Inspector Darren Webster said: “This type of incident is very rare in Redditch and will of course be distressing to the victims and I appreciate may cause concern to the wider community, we have a dedicated team investigating these offences and local officers will be patrolling the area to reassure the public.”

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police on 101 quoting incident reference number 491s of Wednesday 11 May or to call Crimestopper anonymously on 0800 555111.
