Bands in a spin over vinyl day

BANDS are queueing up to play at Redditch’s Vintage Trax as the Indie record shop marks Record Store Day this Saturday, April 18.

Already lined up are local artists Stuart Wolfenden and Voodoo club’s Jonny Edwards but with other groups interested in joining the party owner Ros Sidaway may start earlier than the 1.30pm she’d planned.

“We’ve had quite a bit of interest, people have contacted me to see if they can play as well, so it may be that we start a bit earlier.” said Ros.

The Birchfield Road business specialises in vinyl records and with first quarter sales of vinyl LPs already 74 per cent up on the same period last year there’s no sign of a slowdown.

“The problem with digital is that it crops music top and bottom while the beauty of vinyl is that you can hear an artist’s music just as they wanted it to be heard.” said Ros.

To whet fans’ appetite there will be lots of bargain LPs and discounts as well as special offers on a selection of preloved record players, HiFi systems and separates.

“We’ll also be raising monies for the John Bonham Memorial Fund campaign (www.johnbonhammemorialfund.com) – the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer was born just a few yards from our shop.” added Ros.

The shop is open from 10.30am until 5.30pm on Saturday and there will be free hot and cold drinks available throughout the day.
