THOSE who went down to the town centre last Saturday (June 14) were in for a big surprise.
An estimated 500 people people turned out for the latest bandstand event on Church Green which included a teddy bears’ picnic to celebrate national children’s day.
Crowds were entertained by live music from acts including Redditch Rock Choir and Bewdley Brass Band as well as performances by the Kerala Association Dancers, Polish Youth School, Irish dancers and Matchborough First School cheerleaders.
The day also coincided with St Stephen’s Church fête and there were a range of other children’s activities, a bouncy castle and face painting.
Council leader Bill Hartnett hailed it as the best bandstand event yet.
“The diverse culture of Redditch was on display as well as a lot of really talented people.” he said.
“It was the best we have ever had – it can only get better.”
Sue Yeng, bandstand committee member, added: “It made the whole area come alive which is obviously what we are trying to achieve.”
The next event in this year’s programme takes place on Saturday, July 12 and will be a Celebration of Local Talent giving people a chance to perform on the bandstand. Anyone who would like to appear should email [email protected] or call 07973130964.
