Bard marathon will be a first

A RUNNER in a Stratford marathon will be going the extra mile in aid of a Bromsgrove-based charity.

Liz Hawker, from Redditch, will be running the Shakespeare Marathon this Sunday (April 26) to raised more than £400 for the Primrose Hospice Centre of Care.

In the last 18 months Liz has completed three half-marathons each time getting a new personal best. However this will be her first full marathon.

Liz said running a marathon had always been a big goal which became even more real last November when her mum was diagnosed with secondary cancer.

She added her mum was first diagnosed in 2002 so when she and her family were told it had returned after 12 years they were devastated.

Liz decided to raise money for the Primrose Hospice because of its brilliant work. Staff from the charity have been supporting her mum with weekly sessions where she can speak to people going through similar experiences.

Liz said: “I know running a marathon is going to be extremely hard but this news made me more determined. It’s the least I can do to raise money for a very worthwhile charity.”
