Woodrow mother's appeal to Standard readers

A DISABLED toddler who desperately needs a safe place to play and grow needs the help of Standard readers.

Dawn Ashburn, from Woodrow, is doing everything in her power to raise £1,500 so she can create a sensory garden for son Theo-Shae to play in.

So far she has made £180.

The three-year-old has global developmental delay with autistic tendencies but once outside he becomes truly at peace with himself.

Unfortunately the only place he has to play is a back garden with broken decking which is in a dangerous condition.

Theo-Shae struggles with day to day tasks others do not give a second thought – from eating to getting dressed and understanding what is dangerous.

Dawn said said her son hated being restricted by doors and walls and just wanted to be outside.

She added Theo loved nature and water especially because he found it so calming.

“He likes to help me tend the garden but it isn’t safe for him to play unrestricted and it’s not as stimulating as I’d like it to be for him.

“My long-term ultimate goal is to create a multi-sensory garden for Theo.”

She added she did not have a lot of family support so was hoping there were some kind souls out there who would help her to improve her little boy’s quality of life.

“I also want to raise awareness of what it like for parents with autistic children,” said Dawn.

“For him to have some where he is at peace would be brilliant.”
