CONSERVATIVE MP for Stratford Nadhim Zahawi is teaming up with Alcester councillors to crack down on parking problems plaguing the market town.

Mr Zahawi joined county councillor Mike Gittus and town councillor Eric Payne in exploring ways to reduce the impact parking and vehicles in general have in Alcester – particularly around the town’s schools.

The three spent a morning looking at a number of locations with a view to obtaining an overall picture of the problem.

“We really are the authors of our own misfortune,” said Coun Gittus. “If our schools were poor performers there wouldn’t be any students and no cars, as it is our schools are the best in Warwickshire and with that there is a price.”

Coun Payne added that with the continuing success of the town’s schools comes the ‘ever worsening’ problem of parking and congestion.

“I have promised the residents in the areas affected that I will do all I can to help resolve the situation,” he said.

Mr Zahawi said the town clearly did have issues which needed to be addressed and encouraged Coun Gittus to arrange a study to be undertaken by Warwickshire County Council to to establish if highway improvements can be made to tackle the problems.

Coun Gittus will fund the study which will have a wider remit looking at all vehicle movement in Alcester.
