Bench in honour of policeman

Redditch Editorial 6th Nov, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

THE MEMORY of a policeman who died aged just 37 has been kept alive in Studley with a commemorative bench.

The seat to honour Rob Preston’s life was put in place outside The Parish Centre on Monday (November 3), followed by a blessing by Rev David Silvester.

His dad, also called Robert and a retired policeman, said following his son’s death from a heart attack he was told to have counselling but was unable to access any, instead he became part of The Compassion Group at the centre.

Attending the group since the West Midlands police officer’s death in 2011 had given Robert the idea of placing a memorial bench there.

“They were all there at the blessing and have been an incredible help to me. I’m not one for that sort of thing normally but it is nice to realise that somebody understands.”
