AN energetic group of Redditch fund-raisers are gearing up to cycle the 153 miles from Redditch to Blackpool next month.
The group are still looking to raise money to help local families who need a break, a treat or a holiday from the full time challenges ill-health, poverty and being a carer can bring.
Lawrence O’Connor, known more commonly known around the town centre as Lar, is heading up the challenge with 17 of his friends and he will be collecting money and sponsorship for this huge challenge throughout the next few weeks.
The group will leave the town’s Rising Sun Wetherspoons pub at 6am on August 1 and arrive in Blackpool later the same day.
Lar said: “It’s going to be a big challenge for us to go all the way to Blackpool in one day, but we know the people of Redditch deserve our help.
“Ordinary local families sometimes get overlooked and we want to make sure no one is forgotten.”
Lar is more at home in the boxing ring at his Viking Boxing & Fitness Club in Millsborough House than on a long-distance bike ride, but he’s no stranger to fund-raising.
Last year he completed a sky dive for CLIC Sargent which provides clinical, practical and emotional support to youngsters and their families.
