A GENEROUS Astwood Bank resident raised more than £700 for charity on his 85th birthday.
Valentine Fanning asked family and friends to donate money to the Alzheimer’s Society instead of having birthday presents.
The father, who left Ireland in the 50s, chose the charity after his wife Maraget-Anne passed away from the disease seven years ago.
More than 140 people attended his party at the Studley Road Social Club in a bid to boost funds.
The fund-raiser also asked for donations on his 80th birthday.
