UK and Ireland supply chain specialists, Beoley-based Oakland International, has won the Business Initiative of the Year Award at The Grocer Gold Awards 2016 for their distressed load management service.
The company’s quality assurance manager, Louise Smith, said: “Winning this award focuses the spotlight on Oakland’s forward thinking culture and passion to embrace new and innovative ways of working and the latest technologies to ensure we remain competitive whilst reducing food losses for our customers.”
Capable of saving up to 80% of produce and with nothing going to landfill, to date Oakland International has recovered around 1,800 tonnes of food with all remaining food waste forwarded to anaerobic digestion plant centres where it is then used for renewable energy.
