THE CREATOR of a book promoting the positive side of having learning disabilities has launched it in her hometown.

Jess Hiles’ drawings inspired the book, written with her mother Jo Allmond, and the pair are now touring around schools with the story, hoped to be the first in a series.

Jess The Goth Fairy was officially launched at Where Next Nurseries on Wednesday (November 18), with the event attended by Deputy Mayor Pattie Hill and Pitcheroak School headteacher Sheila Holden, who invited Jess into the school to talk about the transition to adult life after education.

Jo told the Standard: “It was a lovely day and it was nice to have so many people there who have been part of Jess’ life and a few new people who have seen the book.

“It’s lovely to be going into schools and to watch Jess’ confidence grow. If this can help others achieve what Jess has, that’s all we want.”
