YOUNGSTERS at Roman Way First School enjoyed an enlightening week in celebration of the the ancient Hindu festival of Diwali last week.

The children in the school’s Reception class have been learning about and exploring Indian artefacts connected to the festival of lights, which officially started on Wednesday (November 11) and lasts for five days.

Savoury Indian snacks were on offer for the pupils who allowed their acting skills to shine through during a re-enactment of the story behind Diwali which sees the safe return of Rama and Sita to their village – which was lit in celebration with small lights called divas.

The students also made and decorated their own clay divas while finishing off their Diwali celebrations by making a ‘Barfi’ – a traditional Indian sweet.
