Burger King makes a Whopper return

FAST food giant Burger King has made a Whopper of a decision to come back to Redditch.

Capital and Regional, which co-owns the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, has put forward a change of use application to Redditch Borough Council which includes transforming three units on Kingfisher Walk into the restaurant.

The former Warren James and current Bainbridge Opticians units – which either have or will be relocated – will be combined with an empty shop to provide one large unit which would seat 80 diners.

The company previously had a franchise in the centre on the corner of Evesham Square, where JD Sports is now based, but it closed in July 2006 with about a dozen people being made redundant.

A spokeswoman for Burger King confirmed the plans and said more details would be made available soon.

Planners are expected to rule on the application in January.

The move forms part of the centre’s continuing development of its new leisure zone which includes new restaurants Nando’s, Tinsel Town and Real China buffet as well as McDonald’s, Vue cinema and Pure Gym.
