BURGLARS targeted the home of an Astwood Bank pensioner within days of her death.
Police believe jewellery was taken from the Evesham Road property between 11.30pm on Monday (May 12) and 1.10pm on Wednesday (May 14).
The woman – who was in her 80s and is believed to have passed away about three weeks ago – was found by police at the house on Monday (May 12) after a neighbour reported they had not seen her for some weeks.
When a forensic examiner visited the property the following afternoon they found a side door, which officers had boarded up, was broken off and drawers and cupboards had been opened and tipped on the floor.
Det Con Adam Pugh of West Mercia Police called the incident ‘particularly upsetting’.
“This was not a random attack. Someone in the area was aware the woman had been found dead and has taken advantage to subsequently carry out the burglary.”
The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and her next of kin have been informed.
Witnesses or anyone with any information should contact DC Pugh on 101 quoting incident 252-s-140514.
