THE Save the Alex campaign have launched an appeal to mount a legal challenge against the closure of the maternity neonatal unit at the Alexandra Hospital.
The money is needed so that local solicitors Irwin Mitchell can investigate whether Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust acted improperly when they announced the closure last Friday (October 30).
“I don’t think anyone is arguing about keeping an unsafe department open, it’s the fact that all this has happened behind closed doors,” said Save the Alex chairman Neal Stote.
“They have known about the staffing situation for four years and more and yet they have allowed it to fail and brought in this closure in an unplanned way with an unplanned transfer to Worcester and without any public consultation.”
