Cancer Research UK appeal to Race for Life competitors

THERE was a determined and fantastic atmosphere on Sunday as over 1,000 women united at Arrow Valley Park with one mission in mind – to conquer cancer.

To the backbeat of Heart FM broadcasting live from the park, the runners limbered up before tackling the five kilometre run.

Now Cancer Research UK is calling on the Redditch formidable army of mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, and go-getting girls to make every step count by paying in their sponsorship money as soon as possible.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year to fund life-saving research.

Tracey Duffy, Race for Life event manager for Redditch, said: “I want to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone who took part in Race for Life, and their supporters, as well as our heroic volunteers.

“Sunday was a fantastic day, full of emotion, courage, tears and laughter as nearly 1,100 women joined forces to show cancer who’s boss.

“Now I’m asking all the women who took part – and all the friends, family and colleagues who pledged to sponsor them – to transform their passion into progress by returning the money they’ve raised as soon as possible.”
