A LOCAL restaurant has been flying the flag for Redditch at the Asian Curry Awards.
Champagne Express on Bromsgrove Road was shortlisted for the glittering event at the Hilton Park Hotel in Mayfair in London eventually finishing regional runner up against the best curry houses in the Midlands.
The event, hosted by TV personality Natasha Kaplinksy, brought the cream of Britain’s south Asian cuisine under one roof to celebrate what has become a quintessential British dish.
“It was a wonderful evening and a fantastic achievement for us, from Redditch, to be in there up against the big boys,” said delighted Champagne Express owner Abdul Ullah.
“We have some quirky things on our menu and these might have caught the judges’ eyes,” said Abdul.
These dishes include ‘Balti Towers’ a curry with a mix of different meats, ‘Mr and Mrs Kahrahi’, a combination of chicken and lamb with lots of garlic, ginger and pesto and a popular ‘Game Meat’ dish featuring everything from crocodile to kangaroo.
