MORE than 120 bicycles will be given to children in Africa who have to walk miles to get to school each day.
Members of the Rotary Club of Redditch Kingfisher, Studley Brownies and other groups, have collected unwanted bikes for the JOLE Rider charity.
The majority of children living in Gambia have to walk long distances in the searing heat to get to school but a bike will make the journey easier, getting them to school on time. Maintenance skills are also taught to the children, while books and education resources are provided to improve their
life chances and prospects.
The bikes were transported from the borough to Tetbury where the charity will refurbish them before sending them to Africa.
Bob Stimpson, Bikes4Africa project leader, said he thought the appeal would generate about 20 bikes.
If anyone has a bicycle they wish to donate they should contact Bob Stimpson on 07702 032379 or
Yvonne Stimpson on 07806 470171. A donation of £10 per bicycle is suggested to fund refurbishing and shipping.
