Comedy night set to raise the roof and funds

AN EVENING of comedy is set to raise the roof and money for charity.

Mayor Pat Witherspoon is hosting a Ship of Fools performance at the Palace Theatre on Tuesday, September 9 at 7.30pm in aid of her charities Redditch Mental Health Action Group and Friends of Redditch.

The event will pull together the best bits of the locally renowned Stand Upstairs comedy series and will be compered by Ant Hill, the man behind the successful Laughter at the Lake event.

Comedians lined-up to deliver laughs on the night include Sheila McMohan who has appeared on the BBC and Sky 1, English Comedian of the Year 2014 Jack Campbell and Hashtag Funny 2013 winner Jack Kirwan.

They will also be joined by Glee Club New Act of the Year 2001 Dave Dinsdale and Kent comedian El Baldiniho known for appearances on John Bishop’s Britain and Roy Chubby Brown’s ‘Who Ate All The Pies’ series.

Coun Witherspoon said: “Mental health is a subject which is often taboo but I want to raise the profile of the subject. It’s important we realise how it affects many people within our community including those who have dementia, anxiety and other illnesses but also the impact it has on their family and friends.”

Tickets cost £10 and are available from the box office on 01527 65203.
