A FORMER councillor who resigned under pressure about alleged homophobic and racist comments is not standing again it has been revealed.
Dave Small’s name does not appear on the finalised list of candidates for the Church Hill by-election taking place on July 17, despite a pledge by the 81-year-old he would contest the seat following his resignation.
Mr Small originally won the seat for UKIP at last month’s borough council elections but was booted out by the party just days later after the Standard pointed out comments made on Facebook including one in which Mr Small brands homosexuals perverts.
He later resigned and told the Standard people would ‘stand by their vote’ and vote for him again.
Police are currently investigating comments made by Mr Small both online and in a radio interview.
Redditch Borough Council estimates the Church Hill by-election will cost between £8,000 and £10,000.
The final list of candidates standing for the seat is as follows:
Isabel Margaret Armstrong, Independent
Lee John Bradley, Green Party
David Howard Gee, Liberal Democrat
Len Harris, UKIP
Kathy Haslam, Conservative
Agnieszka Beata Wiecek, Independent
Nina Wood-Ford, The Labour Party
