Cricket club vandalised

Redditch Editorial 2nd Jul, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

UP TO £15,000 of damage has been caused to Studley Cricket Club following a break-in.

The Birmingham Road community club was smashed up about 2.45am on Tuesday (July 1).

Pool and snooker tables were destroyed as well as light fittings and two windows were smashed.

Police have arrested two men in connection with the incident.

Steve Rose, captain of the club, said the money spent on cleaning up the damage and replacing equipment could have been used to support the children’s cricket team.

“It’s just really disappointing, not just for the club but for the community too,” he said.

“This is a community venue and we are always having events on and we do lots of things with people living in Studley.

“The money we will have to spend on cleaning it up and fixing it could have gone to such better use.”

He also praised police for their speedy response.
