THOUSANDS of people are expected to visit Salwarpe fete tomorrow (Saturday).

Worcester Ukelele Band is making its debut with foot-tapping music, dog trainer Pauline Whittaker is demonstrating walking-to-heel to music and the 45-strong Droitwich Community Choir will also be appearing for the first time.

There will also be two performances by the ever-popular West Mercia Police Brass Band and while being entertained adults have the chance to roll the dice for a Volvo, bid in a silent auction and scour the bric-a-brac marquee for bargains.

Displays of quilts, flowers and local history will be on show in the church and there will be a classic car display at Salwarpe Village Hall, along with tea and cakes provided by the WI.

Attractions for children include pony rides by Party Ponies from Bromsgrove, petting animals from Gloverspiece Mini Farm in Ladywood, a bouncy castle and plenty of games from a coconut shy to beat the goalie.

Sports Partnership Hereford and Worcester is organising field games for children, who need to register on arrival, and all will receive a certificate and prize for entering.

Plus there’s a barbecue, Churchfields Icecream (made on the farm) a cake and home made/garden produce stall, a cider tent, tombolas and a grand raffle to win an Apple iPad Mini plus many more lovely prizes.

The fete, at Churchfields Farm, will be opened at 2pm by Rev Beverley Jameson after a fanfare from West Mercia Police Brass Band and the church bells will peal for an hour beforehand to remind everyone within earshot.

The grand raffle will be drawn at 4.45pm shortly before the fete closes.

Entry to the fete is £1 with parking and children free. Proceeds go to maintain the historic churches at Salwarpe and Martin Hussingtree.
