AN ALCESTER couple celebrating their diamond anniversary have kindly asked for family and friends to donate to Parkinsons UK instead of buying them gifts.

Margaret and Eric Portman will be marking their 60th year of marriage on June 4 and are asking for contributions toward research into the disease which has sadly affected Eric.

The 89-year met his wife at dance in Bromsgrove and the two had a traditional church wedding in a Leamington Spa, where Margaret is from, before starting their lives together in Alcester.

Margaret is ten years youngster than Eric but still feels she is the lucky one.

“He is just a wonderful man. I am very lucky to have him. Anything I want he gives me. If I want something and we have the money there is no question he just tells me to get it. he has been a wonderful husband.

“The Parkinsons has affected his social life. He used to go out a lot more but he can no longer drive so I take him to the numerous clubs he is a part of.

“We are quite lucky because he manages brilliantly well and there others who are completely housebound. That’s why we wanted to get donations for the charity.”

The couple will be joined by their two children, Jayne, aged 57 and 53-year-old Richard along with their three grandchildren.
