LOVING couple Sheila and Doug Basson first met at a dance and have been tripping the light fantastic ever since, right up to celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this Sunday (September 27).
Cupid’s arrow struck when Sheila, from Redditch, met Doug, a Welford lad, at a dance in Alcester and stepping out has been a feature of their lives ever since.
They were married at St Stephens Church, honeymooned in Cliftonville and have lived at the Forge Mill Road home ever since.
“I’ve never really thought how we’ve lastes this long,” said Sheila, aged 83, “we just toddle along together and the years go by.”
However the couple lead busy lives – they have two children, Susan and Nigel, and countless hobbies to keep them occupied. Doug, aged 86, is also a keen gardener while Sheila volunteers for the League of Friends in the cafe at the Alexandra Hospital.
“Susan and Nigel always take us somewhere lovely on our wedding anniversary and I’m sure we won’t be disappointed this year,” said Sheila.
