Didn't get the grades? Results helpline gets set to assist Redditch students

THE Exam Results Helpline is ready to open this Thursday (August 18) for A Level results day and will remain open every day until Wednesday, August 31, to help GCSE students.

Funded by the Department for Education, the helpline will be ready to help thousands of students who have received their exam results and want to discuss their options.

Over 40 expert careers advisers will be on the dedicated phone number – 0808 100 8000 – and on the Facebook and Twitter pages from 8am on August 18.

Over 9,500 people called the Exam Results Helpline last year for advice and support on a number of topics including re-sits, re-marks, higher education, careers advice, apprenticeship guidance, vocational qualifications and gap years.

Holly Laing called the helpline when she didn’t get the grades she needed to French, Spanish and Arabic at university: “I really didn’t know what to do and just started to phone universities but had no luck. I have never been so stressed about my immediate future. The adviser that I spoke to suggested that I should go and visit some of the unis that I was looking at to see if that would help my decision, which I did before accepting my place at Lancaster University. If I hadn’t called the Exams Results Helpline I would have cried even more! I might have also missed out on some of the opportunities to study at some unis.”

Nick Hynes, Exam Results Helpline adviser and professional careers adviser with over 25 years’ experience, said: “Every year, there are students who don’t get the grades they need for university, there are those who achieve better grades than expected and those whose career plans have changed since they made their original university choices.

“At such a critical and life changing time, it’s imperative that these students are clear what ALL of their options are, enabling them to make fully informed decisions about their futures.”
