Dog responsible for two attacks

THE SAME dog was responsible for two vicious attacks on residents and their pets, it has been confirmed.

The Standard reported last week a man and his dog had been bitten by a larger dog which matched the description of one involved in an incident involving 83-year-old Doreen Nicholson and her Yorkshire Terrier Benjy.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said the dog involved in the October 4 attack in Matchborough has been formally identified as the same one involved in the September 21 incident in the same district.

She added the American Bulldog was still in kennels and enquiries were continuing but no arrests had yet been made.

The first incident saw Doreen suffer an open fracture and Benjy left with jaw marks and four-inch cuts to his leg after the pair were bitten during a walk in Hatfield Close towards Arrow Vale playing fields.

The Matchborough resident, who uses a mobility scooter to get around, picked her seven-year-old Terrier up when she saw the bulldog approaching rapidly.

But the bigger dog launched himself on them, throwing Benjy to the ground.

The second attack happened about 10pm on October 4 when a man was walking his small eight-year-old dog.

He ended up dragging the bulldog across the road and managed to get it into someone’s garden, shutting the gate behind it to ensure it could not bite them again.

During the ten-minute ordeal, he was bitten on the forearm and calf and his pet was left with more than ten puncture wounds, bloodshot eyes, cuts to its legs and swollen joints.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
