Don raises smiles in home visit

A SMILE was brought to the faces of residents at a Redditch care home after a famous comedian and actor dropped in for a visit.

Don Maclean, star of Crackerjack in the 1970s, joined his friend Bob Conner on a trip to Brambles Residential Care Home last Friday (January 16) to see Bob’s wife Pat who has lived there for two years.

While there the entertainer, who also appeared in Crossroads and Carry on Columbus, took the time to meet and greet residents at the Birchfield Road home.

Margaret Hook, manager at the home, said: “Don was very witty and charming – a true gentleman for whom nothing was too much trouble and we are so pleased that he came along to meet our residents and the team here.”

Dorothy Hill and Hilda Mason, both 92, were particularly delighted to talk to their special visitor.

Hilda said: “Don was a very nice and charming man and was exceptionally pleasant. I really enjoyed his visit.”
