Drum 'n' bass and brass at Morton Stanley Festival

THE annual Morton Stanley Festival will be bringing a bit of drum ‘n’ bass with a bit of brass thrown into the mix after the headline acts were confirmed.

Headlining this year are Sam and the Womp and Gypsy Hill who will be playing between 5pm and 7pm on Sunday, August 23.

Sam and the Womp have returned with a huge new sound after their debut single ‘Bom Bom’ shot straight to No 1 in the UK music charts in August 2012 and sold over a million copies worldwide.

Fronted by trumpeter Sam Ritchie and singer/songwriter Bloom De Wilde, the London band create a unique alternative brass dance sound.

Gypsy Hill play a mix of Balkan brass, Mediterranean surf rock, ska and swing; featuring guitars, horns, tuba, a scratch DJ and a mix of live and electronic beats.

No strangers to the big stage, their impressive tour history includes some of the UK and Europe’s biggest festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, WOMAD, Sziget, Fusion and Winterthurer Musikfestwochen.

Councillor Pat Witherspoon, whose portfolio covers leisure services, said: “I for one will be down at Morton Stanley Festival tapping my feet and enjoying the wide range of musical talent on show.

“The annual festival gets bigger each year and is now at a stage where we can attract big, international acts as well as giving the local community a chance to take to the stage. This is what makes our festival truly unique and is something to be really proud of in Redditch.”

The Festival is from August 22-23 at Morton Stanley Park and brings together a wide variety of live music as well as other activities to get involved in such as craft stalls, a mini food festival, children’s activities and a climbing wall from the army recruitment team.
